Born in Dublin Ireland in 1982.
The aim of my work is to reinvigorate painting by engaging with its historical roots and making the timeless themes that recur throughout the history of painting relevant to a contemporary audience. In antiquity these themes were addressed through a mythological framework and in many ways the mass media today can be seen as a kind of contemporary mythology. It shares many concerns with history painting such as sex, death and truth however it deals with them in a rather crass manner and tends to devalue them through over-exposure and a general lack of depth and insight. The work presented here is intended to draw the timeless from this ephemeral waste of contemporary visual culture returning the brutality to the image thus providing a space for reflection on the most basic concerns of the human condition.
